A Chuckey man died in a house fire Sunday morning just after 7:00 AM
Sheriff Wesley Holt said that Daniel Reaves, age 59, was found deceased in a basement bedroom. Greene County 911 received a call of a structure fire at 660 Choctaw Drive around 7:11 AM. The caller was awakened by the family dog barking and running around the inside of the home. When the caller went to investigate, she found smoke in the basement area. Occupants began evacuating the home but were unable to make entry to the basement area.
Units from Tusculum, Limestone, Newmansville, and Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Departments, along with the Greeneville City Fire Department responded to the scene. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control and discovered the body in a bedroom in the basement .
Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the fire investigator with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department continue their investigation into the cause of the fire. The remains were sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center for an autopsy and formal identification. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
