The Greene County Regional Commission met yesterday afternoon and after a long discussion, a motion was made for the moratorium on solar farms to be extended 14 months.
Lynn Ashburn who works in research and special projects told the commission that when regulations were first made they were only drafted with smaller developments on agricultural land in mind. She said at that time there weren’t many solar farms and they weren’t as big as what’s around now.
Ashburn and staff feel that more experts should be involved in regards to re-drafting the regulations especially after hearing some concerns from residents in the county. A further study will be conducted so that regulations protect farmers and farmland but also remain fair for property owners. Ashburn said she believes an extension on the moratorium was a good idea and said you don’t know how the actions of these regulations will affect the community.
A motion was made by Vice-Chairman Gwen Lilley to extend the moratorium. The extension includes bitcoin and wind farms.
