The Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission met yesterday morning and Planning Director Randy Davenport informed the commission on a conceptual plan for the “Bohannon Development” located on Whitehouse Road.
Davenport stated that the 107.7-acre property originally was planned to have 250 lots included, but the property owners have come across some limitations and have revised their plan, which will now includes 218 single-family residential units. A new street that will be almost 2 miles will be added and publicly dedicated to the Town of Greeneville. Davenport said no approval was needed at this time from the commission.
The Bohannon Development would be developed in two phases, but Davenport said it hasn’t actually been approved yet, it’s only been approved to be annexed into town. The development, which is located near the Greeneville Municipal Airport, could potentially cause neighboring property owners to have complaints.
Mr. Walt Stone from the Municipal Airport attended the meeting and mentioned that the runway is 3,000 feet away from the new development and airplanes will be flying about 400-500 ft. above houses. He says there is just no way around it, as the airport has invested 15 M in improving the airport. That means it allows for heavier aircraft and with the growth in town, he expects more freight traffic, which also means bigger planes.
Planning Director Davenport informed the planning commission of a facility that would be brought to their attention in a future Board of Zoning Appeals meeting.
Davenport said there is a telecommunication facility located near North Irish Street and East Hardin Street that is used for high speed internet services. Plans were submitted to the town which explained a connection to fiber optic cables. Davenport believes there would be a signal received from the satellite that would then be transferred back out to the general public.
The 700 square ft. facility, according to Building Official Bert Seay, is used for a satellite system. The facility has two satellite dishes and would be a business selling internet to customers. The site will be brought up to the planning commission at a later date once more details are finalized.
