The Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society’s Adoption Center will temporarily close to the public effective Monday, January 9 through Monday, January 23 as they move into the new shelter located at 400 North Rufe Taylor Road.
The Greene County Commission approved the purchase of the Humane Society’s Facility on Hal Henard Road in their September meeting for $150,000. The county plans on using that facility which adjoins the Animal Control center, as a livestock holding facility. Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison said it will help the county to avoid having to build another livestock facility, due to issues that have occurred in the last couple years that caused the Animal Control center to close.
Mayor Morrison stated in the Budget and Finance meeting Wednesday, that the Humane Society will begin moving on the 7th and will plan on re-opening in the new location on January 24th. Animal control will do a walk-through of the facility on Hal Henard Road soon, before getting it transferred into the counties name.
Humane Society staff will continue to care for the shelter’s dogs and cats each day while closed. Plans for a grand opening celebration will be announced at a later date. The Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society wants to thank its supporters during this transition into its new facility.
