The boil water notice that was in effect for some customers of Chuckey Utility District has been lifted.
Utility Manager Tyson Lamb said that water samples have been tested and returned negative results, meaning the water supply is safe to consume without first boiling. The precautionary measure had been put in place after Christmas as the utility had certain lines shut down to stem the large amount of residential leaks caused by last week’s freezing temperatures.
Lamb said that water service has been restored to the areas that were initiall affected. However, some customers that live at higher elevations may continue for 24-48 hours to experience low pressure/weak flow as the system stabilizes and more leaks are found and fixed.
Lamb continues to urge homeowners, landlords, and businesses to check and monitor their meters and lines over the next few days as most of the leaks found are on the homeowner’s side of the meter. Report any leaks and any areas of water that could possibly be leaks to Chuckey Utility District immediately.
The after-hours emergency number is 423-636-6905.
