A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until 7 PM tomorrow night. Tennessee has not experienced extreme cold through December in Greene County for decades. As the temperature drops rapidly after midnight, rain will change into snow, with light accumulations expected before sunrise Friday.
A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for the County beginning at 4:00 AM Friday morning until 1:00 PM Saturday.
Dangerously cold wind chills of 10 to 20 below zero are expected for lower elevations, while wind chills as low as 25 to 40 below are possible in the higher elevations, with wind gusts as high as 50 mph.
The National Weather Service is expecting total snow accumulations from a dusting up to two inches. Plan on slippery road conditions that could impact travel throughout Friday. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Strong winds may result in downed trees and power lines.
If you plan to use alternative sources of heat or electricity In your home be careful. Observe all safety precautions to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution, or a fire. Portable generators should be operated outdoors in a dry and well ventilated area.
