The National Weather Service in Morristown has the latest weather update and Thursday will include rain, which will be turning into snow throughout the night. Totals are currently less than 1 inch for lower elevations and 2+ inches for the higher elevations.
The weather will affect travel late Thursday night into Friday due to very low temperatures. Every thing will freeze and cause icy conditions/black ice on area roadways and on the interstate. Local/State Road Crews will be working diligently to keep the roadways safe.
Winds are expected to be 30-40mph in the lower and into the higher elevations causing DANGEROUS Wind Chills of -8 to -12 on Friday in to Saturday morning (Christmas Eve). Wind chills in to the highest elevations could be as LOW as -20 at the highest peaks.
The National Weather Service advises all to protect pipes from freezing and encourage proper and safe heating sources, as well as recommend alternate heat sources.
Also a reminder to provide adequate shelter/warmth/food /water for your animals during this time, Make preparations before the STORM, not DURING! Last minute holiday shoppers are encouraged to keep the weather into consideration and complete last minute holiday chores before Friday, as all should try and stay home to keep warm and off the roadways.
