Chuckey Doak High School Chorus led by Angee Woody started off the Greene County Board of Education meeting yesterday evening with the singing of some jingles. They will have a concert next week on the 15th at 7 PM at the Chuckey Doak High School and all are welcome to join and hear their lovely singing.
Recognition was given to students from the class of 2023: Heidi Buch, Piper Gaby, Kaitlyn Hoxie, all from Chuckey Doak High School, North Greene High School students Marie Alonso, Jeremiah Monaghan, South Greene High School students Joseph Cole, Breyden Nelson, and Hunter Toth, and Gavin Wilhoit from West Greene High School, for scoring 30 or higher on the ACT. The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and is a graduation requirement for students.
The following students were awarded the Outstanding Art Award and got recognition at the meeting: Lorena Ramirez from North Green High School, Megan Atchison from West Green High School, Sharlotte Penix from North Green Middle School, Kylie Lougee from West Green Middle School, Avery Stepp from McDonald Elementary School, Furi Ormsbee from Nolachuckey Elementary, Miia Korol from South Greene High School, Kylie Phelps from Chuckey Doak High School, Lyla Boyle from South Greene Middle School, Reagan Brown from Chuckey Doak Middle School, and Tenley Ball from Chuckey Elementary.
Director of schools David McLain said December 16th is the last day of the semester for Greene County Schools. The board approved the employee Christmas bonus as well. Director McLain said he would send out an email to employees with information regarding the upcoming bonus.
Dustin Burnette, Chartwells’ Food Service Coordinator, told the board more than 6,000 applications went out recently for the free and reduced meal program, which is still accepting those who apply and are eligible to participate.
