Windy conditions are expected across the East Tennessee mountains and foothills today. Southerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are possible. A low pressure system moving north of the region today will lead to an increase in the south to southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 to 40 mph. The strongest gusts are expected in the afternoon. These gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as holiday decorations. Also, a few tree limbs could be blown down and isolated power outages are possible.
Locally heavy rainfall Tuesday night into Wednesday is also possible. Additionally, another round of high winds in the mountains will be possible early Wednesday morning.
