The American Legion Post #64 of Greeneville, TN, and the Greeneville–Greene County Honor Guard will be holding their Annual Veterans Day Service on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 211 North Main Street, Greeneville, TN. The event is traditionally held at the Veterans Memorial Park but will be moved to First Baptist Church due to the inclement weather forecast for the area.
The Annual Veterans Day Service is a moving and honorable tribute to attend by those that would like to share a brief and thankful moment of their day to recognize all that have served honorably in the United States Armed Forces.
The Veterans Day Service will also include a presentation to Greene County Gold Star Mothers (Mothers of Soldiers that have died in combat) as well as a Memorial Tribute by the Greeneville–Greene County Honor Guard. This Honor Guard conducts Military Memorial Services for Soldiers in the East Tennessee area. It consists of all voluntary members. They
devote their time to serving their fellow service members with funeral honors as well as participating in special community events. The Honor Guard has conducted military funeral
honors beyond Greene County from Johnson City to Morristown. In 2021, the volunteers conducted more than 100 military funeral honors despite the pandemic, and so far in 2022 have
volunteered over 3800 man hours and over 70 military funeral honors.
As an update on the Veterans Memorial Park, the current project is preparing for the installation of the sixth Memorial stone. Each stone carries 450 engraved names of local Greene County Veterans. While gathering names for the stones is an ongoing process, the sixth stone requires approximately 201 more names before it can be engraved and installed. If you would like to submit an application for a local Veteran, please contact Grady Barefield at 423-639-3775.
