The Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen selected former member Ginny Kidwell to fill the vacant alderman seat for the unexpired term of Cal Doty during its meeting on Tuesday.
Doty announced his resignation last month from the board due to his change in residency outside the 1st ward.
The board approved a resolution to share in a match for a State of Tennessee Site Development Grant at the former Greene Valley Developmental Center property. As part of the town’s inclusion in the Tusculum-Greeneville-Greene County Industrial Development Board, the town will pay $50,000, which is one third of the $150,000 match.
Also approved was the purchase of a replacement automated garbage truck for nearly $65,000 for the Public Works Department. The board approved a truck purchase in November, but the vehicle has had numerous issues that can no longer be repaired.
The board did not vote on an item to have Tim Teague fill the position held by Sam Miller on the Greeneville Energy Authority Board of Directors. Alderman Kristin Girton made a motion to approve the nomination, but the item was not voted on due to the lack of a second motion. Mayor W.T. Daniels said he intended to bring the item before the board again at its next regular meeting when there will be a fourth alderman present.
The board also approved ordinances on first reading to update the Town of Greeneville’s Building Code from the 2012 ICC Edition to the 2018 ICC Edition of Construction Code and to update the International Fire Code from the 2012 Edition to the 2018 Edition.
Also during the meeting, the board approved a special event request to close portions of Academy Street for the Depot Street Farmers Market, which will be held on Saturdays.
