The Greeneville Board of Mayor & Aldermen approved requesting revisions to a Tennessee Department of Transportation US 321 project at their meeting on Tuesday.
The requested revisions are to build four-lane divided highways on US 321 near Bright Hope Road instead of a super two-lane highway. This request will be sent to TDOT and legislators in Nashville.
The Board did not approve allocating $275,000 to match the total cost to replace the Greeneville High football field turf.
The turf was installed around 2010 and had a 10-year lifespan, according to Assistant Director of Schools for Administration Beverly Miller.
Football Coach Eddie Spradlen said that the field was tested at the end of the school year and it is not going to be legal to play on for much longer.
Alderman Scott Bullington stated that it is not a good time to go ahead with this, as the town is dealing with employee insurance issues.
The Board also did not approve subdividing and selling around 35 acres of town-owned property at Hardin Industrial Park. The property contains a creek, sinkholes, and there is a certified wetland on the property.
Planning Director Randy Davenport said that the property could possibly be turned into a park.
The Board decided to table until they could find out more information.
The Board discussed raising property taxes in order to fund projects for Greeneville City Schools.
The Greeneville Board of Mayor & Aldermen will next meet on Tuesday, February 1.
