The Greene County Board of Education approved an education tour in London, Paris, Florence, and Rome for South Greene High School students during their meeting yesterday.
The tour is scheduled for Spring Break in 2025 and is being planned early due to fundraising events that need to take place and will help with the international trip. Students will experience culture, history, and global perspective while traveling abroad during the 10-day trip. According to the trip form request, the cost for students is about $4,400 and about $5,000 for adults. About 30 students will travel and will be joined by Chaperones with a 6:1 ratio.
The board approved a proposal for the Greene County High School FFA Chapters Equipment Auction. The auction will be at West Greene High School October 3rd and the purpose is to auction off old, outdated, and out of service equipment to raise funds. This will help reduce the number of outdated supplies currently stored at the schools.
Also approved was procedures, policies, field trip requests, materials for surplus disposal, and the 2023-24 Board of Education Officers were elected. Rick Tipton was elected as Chairman. Mark Rothe was elected as Vice Chairman. Trenda Berney was elected as Secretary.
The Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) Delegate Assembly will consist of 4 delegates, Tom Cobble, Minnie Banks, Gary Compton, and Larry Bible. Minnie Banks was elected as the Tennessee Legislative Representative (TLN) and Committee Assignments will remain the same as last year. A list of board members can be found below.
