Reagan Arrowood will graduate in May from South Greene High School.

By later in the summer, she could be serving as a Greene County Commissioner in District 2.

The 17 year old had her qualifying papers approved Thursday at the Election Commission office.

While Arrowood is only 17, if elected she would be 18 by the time she were to take office in September.

When questioned about the qualifying age to be a candidate, Greene County Administrator of Elections Justin Reaves told Radio Greeneville News:

“There is nothing in state law that requires an individual to be 18 to run for county office, but there is a requirement of age that must be met to hold the office.
As long as the age requirement will be met to hold the office, the person may run.  The only time election officials can keep someone off the ballot because of age is if the person will not meet the minimum age for the office before the term starts.  For example, in a case about a state Senate seat, the Tennessee Supreme Court said a candidate could be removed because he would not turn the required age until after Election Day, when the Senate term began.  T.C.A. § 8-18-101 does say you must be at least 18 to hold a county office.”

Arrowood is the daughter of Joshua and Candice Arrowood of Limestone. Joshua is a current County Commissioner in the second district not seeking reelection to that position as he is a candidate for Greene County Mayor.
