A Greene County woman reported that she has been involved in a dispute with a man and with PayPal over the purchase of a clothes dryer.
The Kingsport Highway woman said Thursday that she agreed to sell the dryer to a man for $150 and agreed to meet him at her home on Monday. The man began to haggle over the payment and offered to trade a television before the seller agreed to receive $125 for the dryer. The man then said he would only be able to make the payment via PayPal, which the seller initially refused before agreeing to the online payment.
The woman said less than an hour after the man left with the dryer, he texted her and said it did not work, though the woman was adamant that it had been checked before he paid and left. The man then hung up on the woman and she discovered that the payment had been reversed because of a dispute.
The victim notified PayPal, who said they could not help her because she did not have a tracking number and had no proof that the man had actually picked up the dryer in person. The woman then said that PayPal told her the man claimed the dryer was shipped and he never received it.
The woman said that the suspect has cut off all contact with her and blocked her number. She was advised by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to continue to work with PayPal to seek compensation for the money.
